#ReliefPH: Help #GlendaPH victims

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun) battered parts of Luzon on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15 to 16. (Follow this liveblog for updates and advisories on #GlendaPH) 

Glenda first made landfall in Legazpi City on Tuesday evening and quickly proceeded in a northwesterly direction towards Metro Manila. Local government units (LGUs) in affected areas ordered evacuation to prevent casualties. 

DSWD secretary Dinky Soliman said at least 458 evacuation centers were opened for affected families and individuals in Metro Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol region, and Eastern Visayas. more than 338,400 people were displaced by the typhoon.

Rappler’s civic engagement arm MovePH, in cooperation with BlogWatch‘s citizen advocates and Global Shapers Manila, is compiling a list of relief and volunteer efforts initiated by groups and individuals to help affected people.

Please spread this information to your friends, families, and networks, and encourage them to extend help to those who are in need.  

Donors are advised to conduct due diligence before donating money directly to personal bank accounts. Ask the organization or individual receiving the deposit for an acknowledgement receipt and how they intend to spend the money.

Government efforts

Meanwhile, the government is also undertaking efforts to assist affected communities. Here is an initial list of ongoing relief efforts by different agencies and offices:

• Volunteers needed at DSWD’s National Resource Operations Center (NROC) at NAIA Chapel Road, Pasay City. Contact: 02-8528081 or 02-8512681

• Naga city is in need of volunteers who will pack goods. Donations are also accepted. Please call 054-4725462. You may go directly to the Congressional Office of Leni Gerona Robredo at Naga City Hall Compound. In front of Commission on Human Rights and Camarines Sur Medical Society.
