According to Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, while the app is great for consuming and sharing Rappler content, “it is also about creating a community that sees a better future ahead and isn’t afraid to demand and work for it.” Over the course of the next few months you will see more and more of that functionality built into the app.

Hours after it was released the Rappler app climbed to the top of the Philippines iTunes App Store’s bestselling apps list. As of posting, it is now the bestselling news app and is among the Top 50 bestselling free apps on the Philippines iTunes App Store.

Rappler is also working on an Android version of the app set for a release on a later date.
