#BestBeautiful: Stop saying “Puwede na ‘yan”
Never settle and break the 'puwede na yan' attitude

MANILA, Philippines – Have you ever settled in your life?

When things can’t seem to go your way, you say, “Puwede na yan.” There’s no more room to push yourself forward, so you settle for second best even if it’s not okay.

But what if we start saying, “You can do so much better?”

Women encounter situations in their career, family life, love, friendship and health when they have to be at their best.

For example:

You’re preparing for a very important presentation and you and your entire team have exhausted all your creativity trying to find that one big idea. Would you settle just to make the deadline or would you continue to work on the concept until everyone is satisfied?

Like any other individual, stress and high standards can take its toll on you physically, mentally and even emotionally. It can cause you to say that you have given all that you’ve got and if the universe deems it so, then just let it be. But deep down you know you can still give it one last try, one last push to be even better.

Do away with the “Puwede na ‘yan” attitude. Always know that you have a choice to reach your full potential and become your #BestBeautiful.

We had our #BestBeautiful hangout session last October 3 from 4 to 6 pm with women who do not settle for anything less. The hangout was moderated by host, sports enthusiast and model Issa Litton. She wears many hats and is a perfect example of a woman who never settles for second best.

Our guests were:

Michele Bumgarner – a Fil-Am racecar driver based in the US. She started in the racing circuit here but is now a professional IndyCar racer for Mazda in Indianapolis. She didn’t settle on being successful in the PH and moved to the US to pursue her career and work towards her goal of being the first woman to win the indy 500 and IndyCar championship.

Liana Lim – a preschool teacher of Explorations (a school in Mandaluyong) took her Masters in Bank St Education (New York). She was offered a permanent position in a prestigious preschool in the Upper East Side since she was a published researcher for a new form of learning in the Bank Street method, but declined the offer and decided to return to Manila in order to pursue her goal from the very beginning: strengthen Explorations preschool.

Shaira Luna – a professional photographer and a household name since the 90s, Shaira has proven that anyone can overcome any challenge as long as you work hard and take risks. As a child, Shaira excelled in her academics and was more advanced than her peers in school. She entered college at the young age of 13 and took up BS Human Biology but didn’t become a doctor as many expected. She taught herself how to shoot photos and is now very passionate about her career.

Ruby Gan  a business owner and mother, Ruby is the woman who runs Chocolate Schu Bar and Myth, making her mark in the fashion industry. She is the President/COO of Shop Manila Inc and has mastered the art of balancing all her responsibilities both at home and at work.

Never settle! Get out of your comfort zone and strive to become your #BestBeautiful because all women can continuously improve themselves inside and out if they choose to do so.

Only you can take action to become a better version of yourself and there’s no other time to take these extra steps to be your best beautiful except now.

Take it from the women who said goodbye to the “Puwede na yan” attitude, who didn’t give in to excuses and took action to get better at their craft.
