MANILA, Philippines – Here’s one more reason to get excited for the next Rurouni Kenshin movie: it has been confirmed that the stars and the film’s director will be in Manila for the Asian premiere of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno.
Specifically, director Keishi Otomo and actors Takeru Satoh (who plays title character Kenshin Himura), Emi Takei (Kaoru Kamiya) and Munetaka Aoki (Sanosuke Sagara) will be making their way to the Philippines in August. (WATCH: Main trailer for ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ sequels released)
This was jointly announced by William Ireton, President and Representative Director of Warner Entertainment Japan Inc., and Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines, according to the press release.
The release says that the red carpet premiere will be on Wednesday, August 6 at SM Megamall, while a public press conference is set for August 7 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
“We are thrilled to bring director Keishi Otomo and castmembers Takeru Satoh, Emi Takei and Munetaka Aoki to Manila so they can personally thank and engage with the loyal fans of Rurouni Kenshin,” says Ireton. “The Philippines is a very important market for the franchise as proven by the outstanding box-office success in Manila of the first Rurouni Kenshin film in 2013.”
“Moviegoers in the Philippines have helped create a wave of anticipation and excitement for the Rurouni Kenshin sequels and the upcoming talent visit is a much welcome recognition of the fans’ ardent support,” says Soliven.
There is no doubt that fans of the manga and the popular anime TV series will be trooping to the venue for a glimpse of their stars who have brought these heroes to life.
Takeru Satoh plays Kenshin Himura, a former assassin who retires to become a wanderer following Japan’s entry into a more peaceful time. He settles nicely into a new life surrounded by his friends, among them Kaoru and Sanosuke, following the events of the last movie, and is determined never to kill again.
But when the evil Shishio Makoto, another former assassin, steps into the limelight and threatens peace in Japan, Kenshin must decide if he will kill again, this time for the good of the country.
In the first Rurouni Kenshin movie, Takeru Satoh impressed fans with his interpretation of the light-footed Kenshin who alternates between being the calm, deadly swordsman and the smiling wanderer with a goofy side.
Emi Takei’s Kaoru Kamiya was equal parts fierce and tender as she defended her own dojo from attackers, then held Kenshin to his vow not to kill even as her own life was threatened.
And Munetaka Aoki delighted fans with his portrayal of the mangy, unkempt (but lovable) Sanosuke, who first pits his strength against Kenshin’s swordsmanship – then fights alongside him for better or for worse.
This time around, Kenshin will need all of his friends to support him as he faces the battle of (and for) his life.
The upcoming movies are based on the series’ Kyoto Arc, which features the journey towards Shishio’s stronghold as well as the actual battle, and will be split into two movies.
The first, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, will show in the Philippines on August 20, the second, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, on September 24. – Rappler.com
